Mr. Billu Barber

Muhammad Aiman has always hated to visit the barber. This is evidenced from his curly-murly hair all long-grown and blondish.

The first time we took him for a trim, he cried hysterically when the barber started to cut his hair.

The second time we took him to meet our friendly Mr. Barber, he started crying when we entered the shop.

The third time we decided he needs a hair cut, Aiman started to cry the moment he saw the shop building from very far away...lol.

Perhaps Mr. Billu Barber should disguise himself as Spiderman, paint the wall bright and colourful so that it looks like the Hi-5 studio and put candy bowls by the window to attract toddlers like Aiman to come and have a hair cut. With mind at peace, of course...

Well, it has always been an adventurous trip, as usual.

Contradicting statement...?

This is taken from my LinkedIn account.

Statement before I add someone into my professional network.....

Welcome to Gigapedia

A visiting professor from Indonesia gives us a web address where we can download e-books at no cost at all. He understands that books for higher learning are very expensive to buy, what more if we student need not only one but perhaps two or more books for our reference.

The e-book website, http://www.gigapedia.org/ contains various type of books that covers on almost everything you would ever imagine in your mind. Politics, social sciences, business management, engineering, information technology, history, movies, religions, hobbies and crafts, home improvements, gardening, automobile, fashion or even a simple novel for you to read.... you name it, you got it. If you asked my opinion, I would say this is the best virtual library I've ever found so far.

If compared to other e-books website, Gigapedia is still the best because downloading  is free of charge.

It's even better than the biggest bookshop in Kuala Lumpur, the Kinokuniya KLCC.
Kinokuniya might have complete title of everything, but the books there are way
tooooooo expensive!

I am eager to try to get hold of a book that specifically discusses on the application of SPSS (a statistics textbook) for my data analysis. The book costs around MYR128.00 (about USD39.00) and need to be ordered from the University Bookshop and will take about a month to wait before it is available for collection. I try search Gigapedia for the first time and to my surprise, it's there!!! Yabedabedoo!

Since then, I download more e-books from Gigapedia. All I have to do is become a member by registering my details (once only), then I am free to search for the books I need whenever I wanted. As a member, apart from downloading some reading materials from the site, I am also encouraged to contribute by either posting (uploading) new reading materials to the site or by donating some amount of money (as small as 10 Euro) to keep it running. Of course, I am bound to some rules and regulation. 10 simple rules, to be exact. The rules are the normal ones you would usually come across as an online member of a site: some stuff on privacy of members, spam, respect, accuracy of information, sensitivity, but the last one that really interest me is on LEECHING!

Rule no 10 says:

"No leeching! If you are one of the heaviest users and show no intent of helping out by posting/reporting etc. and just leech then your account maybe removed, we expect users to help out and get involved"

Owh! Everytime I read this last rule, I feel like someone is slapping my face. So far I have downloaded  dozens of e-books from the site but never contribute anything in return. My book collection at home are dusty and outdated. And 10 Euro equals USD1,000 to me....(Oh! what a bad reasoning!!)

Another thing that attracts me so much is 'the staff' that run this website.  Even though I do not know who they are and where they come from, I do sense that they are hard working people who try to satisfy the needs of every member: members with 1001 behaviour! Well, if not, then can you tell me why they put up this message on site?

"This site only has 10 short rules. Read them, understand and follow them, or else...."

and when you click on the 10 short rules,  the last paragraph indicates that they are really serious in their business:

"if you have an issue with any of the rules, contact us (contact link at bottom of all pages)

Staff might contact you from time to time and/or leave feedback, you are expected to listen to staff and follow any advice/warnings given. Ignoring staff is not a good idea and will lead to a voodoo doll being created in your image and poked with needles."

So, out of curiosity I check my account, in case 'the staff' left a message for me. There's this general  message that says:

"staff have left no feedback on your account, you have been a good boy/girl."

Phew!  That's a relief!!!

And so I happily read the newly downloaded statistics e-book, until I come to this paragraph at page two of the book where the author writes this...

"You're probably wondering why you have bought this book. Maybe you liked the pictures, maybe you fancied doing some weight training (it is heavy), or perhaps you need to reach something in a high place (it is thick). The chances are, though, that given the choice of spending your hard-earned cash on a statistics book or something  more entertaining (a nice novel, a trip to the cinema, etc.) you'd choose the latter. So why have you bought the book (or downloaded an illegal pdf of it from someone who has way too much time on their hands if they can scan an 800-page textbook)?"

Ahak! That statement choked me!!! Does this means the author knows that I am reading from the downloaded version of his book? Is he aware of Gigapedia existence? Is he actually referring to Gigapedia when he writes this? And he is labelling it ILLEGAL? If Gigapedia IS illegal, then how does it obtain consent to continue operation till this very day? These questions puzzle me. Anyway, eventually, I still buy the statistics book from the University Bookshop. Whether the action of buying it has anything to do with the statement by the author, wallahu'alam. I dont know.

I still visit Gigapedia once in a while when there's some information I need to get hold of really fast and there's not enough time to spend on a journey to the bookstore and searching for the real book to refer to. But the best I can, I will always make sure there's no doll being made that replicate myself and poked with needles... Ouch!

While I was away...part 4/5 - Pimp my ride Malaysian version!

http://www.mtv.com/shows/pimp_my_ride/season_5/series.jhtml

I've mentioned in my previous post that our good neighbour whom we depended on to send and fetch our children to and from school has migrated to Melbourne, Australia recently. We have to find another alternative as a mean of transportation for the children and we have to find it fast so that the problem won't affect the children and their study. The children can actually take the bus to school, but my worry is on the prolonged hours they will have to spend on the journey as the school bus make its rounding to cover several big residential areas. Actually I've tried the school bus before, but pity the children, they only reached home after Maghrib adhan was over. By the time they have cleaned themselves and sat for dinner it was almost 9pm. They were then so tired that they fell asleep even before they managed to finish the food in their plates!!!

The only way to solve this problem is to send and fetch them ourselves, but that would need us to get another car because I drive our mpv to work everyday and I can't reach home on time to fetch the children from school. My husband, who prefers to ride his motorbike wherever he goes, can reach home much earlier, but without a car he simply can't bring them home, unless he train his children how to become circus monkeys performers.

I can't imagine seeing my husband and children riding on a bike like this.....
Pic taken from Nissan Grand Livina hillarious advertisement on TV.

But alhamdulillah, truly Allah provides us with all our needs if we asked from Him in our duas. It so happened that one day, another neighbour told us he wanted to sell his old car because he wanted to buy a new one. We know this person well enough to trust his words that his 2004 model Perodua Kelisa is still in good condition. So, after a 30 second 'test drive' of the petite car, we bought it without further question, at a selling price 41% below the market value!!!

No one is ever so excited with the existence of the second hand car but my husband. He started to day dream about making some refurbishment works on the car so that it would not look too 'old' at its age. At the end of the day, we decided to repaint the car, change its upholstery completely from fabric to leather, modify its engine, tint the windows, change the tyres and install a cd player. Even after incurring all these costs, we can still sell the car and profit RM3,000 from it!

I attached below the before and after pics of the car. The mechanic did a wonderful job with the engine. Smooth, fast, lightweight. It totally feels like driving a brand new car. As a matter of fact, now I am feeling like my mpv is so heavy!

The second hand Kelisa, before the make over

Dusty interior with faded fabric upholstery

...and dirty engine too!

At the workshop where the mechanic and his gang dismantled every parts of the engine

The car looked rather scary at this point

Out went the dirty parts, in came the new parts through the dismounting process

And the result after two whole week in the make over process......

The same car, after the make over

Many people told us it's the body paint that makes it look gorgeous

The third day we park the car outside our compound, a stranger approached my husband and asked,

"Are you selling this car? I am interested to buy it"

*speechless*

Oh man! Not again!!!

Quite some time ago I put up these posts about the 'uninvited visitors' in my house: a gigantic catfish that was found stranded at the back door still alive (as it 'knocked' the door with its tail) and a tiny domestic mouse that came to visit at nights and chewed my floor mat into small pieces. We have eliminated them the best way we can for the safety of everyone in the house (especially my baby porcupine who insisted we keep the mouse as cuddly pet... what???!!!!)

I thought our problem is over until last few nights when there came another unwanted and unexpected visitor 'checked-in' into our master bedroom to share the same space with us to live happily ever after.

A CIVET!!!!!

Image taken from forumjualbeli.com

The only different between us human and the civet is that we live in the room and it stays in the ceiling, right on top of us. We can hear it running here and there almost every night, starting at around 3 a.m. in the morning and would last for about a few minutes up to an hour before it disappeared to God knows where. I can't sleep during this time, for fear that this cunning animal might suddenly fall from the air and land straight onto my face.... On top of that, normally the next morning when we wake up, we'll be breathing in a room with this peculiar, nice smell of pandan leaves (pandanus amaryllifolius), a common plant we use to add nice fragrance and also green colouring in our cooking. It was the civet's urine that smells like pandan leaves! Masya-Allah!

I can't believe this! Our house is in the middle of a busy city. We have massive traffic jam in the morning and again in the evening. Constructions of new buildings are everywhere. The moment we open our eyes in the morning there will be many sources of noises from people's activities, vehicles, machines, etc., they're like music to our ears. Even when we retire to bed at night, we still can hear these noises. This is just to describe you how busy this place is. So where does this civet come from???

The more important question to think about is..... how do I get rid of it?

He has the best solution...

My husband has been listening with interest when I told him about my annoying waffles-smelling office. At one time he looked up to the ceiling as if thinking about something, at other times he would simply gaze at the floor. I can't decide whether he's concerned with my condition or the yummy waffles. When I've finished talking he looked at me with sparkling eyes and said,

"You have three options to solve your problem"

I got excited. Can't wait to hear what he's going to say.

"First option, you change your place of study. I propose you go to the library and study there."

"No, I can't do that. The air-conditioning is too cold for me I'll be shivering to death. On top of that, the library is too far away from my office." That's my reply. For a few seconds there was silence everywhere. He looked at me as if he wanted to swallow me alive.

"Then go for the second option" he slowly smiled.

"What's the second option?"

"You go straight to the person-in-charge or business owner at the student lounge and tell that person to stop making waffles immediately."

"Noooo...! I can't do that either! They must have signed an agreement or contract with the faculty that allows them to run their business there. I can't simply interrupt the business just because I can't stand the smell"

By now my lips have pouted.

"Then you have no choice but to go for the third solution."

"You'd better be serious this time!"

"I am serious!"

"Okay, what's the solution?"

He paused for a while before saying this...

"Wear a gas mask to office. I'll help you find and buy one"

I can't imagine how I would look wearing  gas mask....
Like an elephant, perhaps?

I was stunned to see him rolling on the bedroom floor, laughing hysterically. I didn't know what to say or how to react. I can't believe it!  Later my children came into the room and without knowing what happened, joined their father laughing and rolling on the floor! Owh! How could they do this to me? I turned sulky.

"Oh! No! Dad, now you're in big trouble!"  my son stared at me and kept updating my condition to his father.

"Don't worry, I know just how to reduce tonight's temperature"  the father patted his son (or partner in crime, I shall say) and instructed the children to go to their rooms.

My husband went out to a night market near our house and came back fifteen minutes later with a plastic bag full of yummy boiled sweet corn with butter. Oh well....*sigh*  He simply knows how to reduce hot temperature at night...

We finally made a deal. I'll go to office till end of this week only. Starting from next week, I'll work from home.

Yahoo!

In the mean time, I guess I'll have to keep covering my face with something (but definitely not a gas mask, please!) to avoid the smell.

London beige his lollibum...

Baby porcupine was singing softly to herself one evening.

"London beige his lollibum...
lollibum...
lollibum...
London beige his lollibum...
Ma fair bebey"

I was stunned at my seat.
She was singing her very own version of "London bridge"

Hahahahaha.....!

It sounds terribly funny!

And awful!

*sigh and slap forehead*

Umrah Ziarah Jordan 2010 The Series - The Troublemaker

2 days more to the very much awaited moment.

I’ve cracked my head in two halves. By incident. I bought too many things and tried to squeeze everything into a medium-sized bag. Some can’t be included. Too big! Too many! Oh gosh! What am I suppose to do now? I need everything but I can’t take all.

While trying to pack more things into the bag, Aliya knocked the door and informed that my BIL and his family has just arrived. Hesitating, I left my sorting and squeezing tasks behind and went downstairs to greet them. I thought no harm could be done leaving my things lying almost everywhere on the floor of the bedroom. Who would want to touch them? Besides, the door was closed when I left. But eventually, my hypothesis was proven totally wrong.

Earlier, my husband sent the youngest sweetheart to bed. Two hours later when he went upstairs to get some documents from our bedroom, he shouted hysterically, which made me drop the cracker container I was holding. I rushed upstairs just to see this….

My cutie-pie, caught red handed!!!
I don't think lengthy explanation is needed here. Just look at the mess! On top of everything, just look at the face of this naughty girl ....

Naughty girl!

The whole bottle of that new shower cream was a gone case. She poured every single drop of the cream on top of her head and not to forget some on the comforter. The bottle is now empty.

Shower cream the victim

And sensing that her dear father was angry at her, she tried to make herself invisible behind the wall...

The perpetrator...

*sigh*

What a girl.... The consequence, I spent two hours mopping the slippery floor of my highly-concentrated perfumed bedroom!

Most embarrasing moment...

March Hare was in the royal kitchen when the White Queen entered, Alice trailing at the back. As if she was well acknowledged that March Hare is as mad as his tea-party member the Mad Hatter and the Dormouse, the White Queen suddenly ducked her head, with no expression what so ever on her face when March Hare threw a saucer to her.

On the contrary, the saucer flew so fast directly towards my face, that I instinctively raised both hands to cover my face from being hit. Not only that, I also half-shouted "Uh!" for it was so unexpected.

As a result, other viewers seated close to me in this 3D movie (especially those at the back rows) laughed out loud and made fun of me for not being alert. Uhuk! Uhuk!  Kuang ajaq punya arnab!  (menjerit ala-ala Rita Rudaini @ Mami Jarum).

Well, the movie is as exciting as told by friends who recommended it to me. It's worth watching, especially in 3D. I wish I could keep the creepy Cheshire Cat as a pet. Could task him to answer the door for me. And the Red Queen could well be the butcher in my humble kitchen.  I like her line,

"OFF WITH THE HEAD"

Wahahaha...

Unexpected visitor

Rain has been heavy lately. There has been strong winds as well. I found the rain water dripping from a hole at the ceiling of my son's bathroom. Made a check. The roof is intact. No leak. It means no problem. But somehow water could still go through the tiny-miny holes in between the slates because of the strong wind factor. Need to do something about it before the water rip open the ceiling one day (sigh!).

But what I really wanted to share here is not about the ceiling, actually. The heavy rains and the strong winds brought a visitor stranded and trapped at the back door of my house. An enermous catfish..! Yikes! In a glance, it looked like a giant snake!

Where it came from, we really have no idea. Perhaps from the nearby drain. But the drain is too shallow for the fish to swim in. The rain water must have overflown a river somewhere and resulted strong current that dragged the fish along, threw it into a drain and left it stucked at my doorstep. Well, I suppose that's what must have happened. What else could I think of?

Bibik took all her energy to put the fish into a big basin (for God knows the fish was awfully heavy and slippery!), while the children shouted hilariously as if they were running away from Freddie Crouger on the Elm Street. The fish was still alive and we didn't know what to do. No way we are going to cook and eat it. Ewwwh!!! But we can't simply throw it away either...

After sometimes, we stopped an Indonesian passerby who was on his way back home from work. Offered the fish and turned him the happiest man in the world. You should see his BIG smile when he took the fish home.....

Oh! well...! Tak payah masuk pertandingan memancing pun, ikan datang menyerah diri kat rumah... Hahahaha! What an incident...!

Funny meanings by improper usage

Mistakes.

I would understand it if the language used is a foreign language and we're not so familiar with it. But I would also think that it is ridiculous to have someone saying something not of one's intention/meaning just because one can't understand own mother tongue. Pure intention of communication then becomes practical joke, as these pictures below explain themselves....
